Françoise d'Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon, was the second wife of Louis XIV, King of France.
She was known as the Widow Scarron, and subsequently as Madame de Maintenon.
Her marriage with the King was never officially announced or admitted, though she was very influential at the court.
She created a school for noble girls from poor families.
