Once upon a time

Françoise d'Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon,

was the second wife of Louis XIV, king of France.

She was known during her first marriage as Madame Scarron,

and subsequently, as Madame de Maintenon.

Her marriage with the King was never officially announced

or admitted, though she was very influential at the court.

She founded a school for noble girls from poor families.
